The answer is simple: follow the manufacturer’s recommendation and have your brake system inspection every 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. During the inspection, your auto repair specialist will perform a “dip-strip” test to test the brake fluid for copper content. If there is too much copper, the brake fluid should be changed. If the brake fluid tests fine, your brake fluid is okay for another year. Please be sure to stay current on brake inspections because too much copper in the fluid can cause a failure in the brakes.
